Nothing is recorded. Say your answers out loud, or practise with a friend.

Answer out loud, because that's the part most people skip. A fresh graduate going for a bank's training route should expect questions on a lower CGPA and on being posted outside Addis Ababa. Someone going for an NGO post should expect to be asked about a community that doesn't trust the project. Take each one, give your answer in under two minutes, then check it against the points listed.

How should I practise?

  • Say each answer out loud, and time it. Aim for one to two minutes
  • Use a real example: what happened, what you did, how it ended
  • Record yourself on your phone once, and listen for filler words
  • Practise in the language of the interview, whether that's English or Amharic
  • Have a friend ask the questions in a different order

What should I bring on the day?

Bring what the advert or the invitation lists, in originals and copies. Ethiopian Airlines asks for a set of originals and copies at registration, including school certificates, work experience letters and a Kebele ID, so keep a folder ready. Come early, and bring a pen. Some employers set a written exam first, as the Ethiopian Airlines results page shows.

What do I say when they ask about pay?

Give a gross monthly figure and say that it's gross. Work it out before you go: on the current tax table, to keep 15,000 Birr a month you need about 22,500 gross. Our salary tool does this for you. If you don't yet know the role well, you can ask for their range first.

Questions people ask

Is the interview in English or Amharic?

It depends on the employer and the post. Ethiopian Airlines says English is mandatory, and 33 of 144 Ethiopia adverts on this site mention Amharic. Prepare your main answers in both if you can.

Do these questions come from real interviews?

They're common questions that we wrote to fit these jobs, not leaks from any employer. Each employer sets its own.

Should I pay for interview coaching or to get on the list?

You never have to pay to be interviewed. If someone says a payment will get you onto a list, treat it as a scam.
