Tips for this CV
- Write your dates in the Gregorian calendar and mark them G.C. if your certificates use the Ethiopian calendar. A Dashen Bank advert from September 2026 asked for fresh graduates of 2025 G.C and 2026 G.C only, so a reader has to be able to match your years at a glance.
- Put your CGPA beside your degree if it's strong, and your exit exam result if you sat one. A Dashen Bank advert from September 2026 set CGPA 2.5 as the floor and asked for the exit exam result with the degree.
- Keep your school papers ready: grade 8, 10 and 12 certificates. Bank and airline adverts ask for them even when the job needs a degree, and your dates must agree with them.
- List every job with its start and end date, then get a written experience letter for each one. Ethiopian Airlines asks for "written work experiences", and your employer has to give you the letter free under Art 12(8) of the Labour Proclamation.
- Name your languages. In our own count on 1 November 2026, 33 of 144 adverts in Ethiopia mention Amharic, and Ethiopian Airlines says English is mandatory.
- You don't need a photo on the CV unless the advert asks. Some employers ask for one when you register in person, so keep one ready.
A strong CV here lets a reader match you to your papers at a glance, because many employers check originals later. Dashen Bank, for one, asked for a degree with exit exam result, grades 8, 10 and 12, a CV and a job application letter in a September 2026 advert. So your dates, grades and names have to agree with your certificates. Your draft stays on this device.
What should a CV in Ethiopia include?
- Your name, town, a phone you answer and a plain email address
- Two or three lines on what you do and the post you want
- Work history with employer, title and dates, newest first
- Education, with your CGPA and exit exam result if they help you
- Certificates such as COC level, and any driving licence grade
- Languages: 33 of 144 Ethiopia adverts on this site mentioned Amharic on 1 November 2026
Which calendar should my dates use?
Use the Gregorian calendar, and mark years G.C. if your certificates use the Ethiopian calendar. Adverts do this themselves: a Dashen Bank post asks for fresh graduates of 2025 G.C and 2026 G.C. If your certificate says 2017 EC, it helps to write both, for example 2017 EC (2025 G.C), so a reader doesn't have to convert it.
Do I need a photo?
Not on the CV, unless the advert asks. This builder has no photo field, since a plain column is easy for a person or a computer to read. Some employers ask for a photo when you register in person, so keep one ready for that.
How do I send it?
Follow the advert. Some posts ask you to apply on a portal, some by email. Local posts at Ethiopian Airlines take papers in person, at the Recruitment and placement Office. Save a PDF with your name and the post in the file name. Before each application, change the summary and the top lines of your work history to match what the advert asks. Then use our word check to see if you missed anything.
Questions people ask
How long should my CV be?
One page if you're new to work, two if you have years of experience. Keep it short enough to read in a minute.
Should I attach my certificates to the CV?
Only if the advert asks. Keep good copies ready, and don't post your ID or certificates in public groups.
Where is my CV saved?
In this browser on your device, so you can come back and change it. It isn't sent to us, and clearing your browser data removes it.
